BERLIN (AP) — The 74th Berlin International Film Festival opens Thursday with the world premiere of “Small Things Like These” starring man of the moment Cillian Murphy. Festival directors Mariette Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian, who will step down after this year, expressed their aim for “open dialogue” surrounding the war. The duo’s previous film, “Ballad of a White Cow,” premiered in competition in Berlin in 2021. Kenyan-Mexican actor Lupita Nyong’o will serve as the Berlinale’s first black jury president at this year’s festival. Isabelle Huppert will return to Berlin to collect her unclaimed lifetime achievement from 2022, when the French acting icon could not attend.

“I could keep all the money,” Waters once told culture website Flavorwire of the screenings. During a press preview for the exhibition, Waters revealed that one item he wished they had procured was Divine’s “cheater” — drag terminology for a prosthetic vulva with fake pubic hair. Whether it’s subverting a four-figure tub of moisturizer or Hollywood, Waters has always been true to himself. “I’ve always made fun of the rules of the world that I live in. That’s how you can have fun, by breaking some of them.”One rule Waters isn’t breaking, however, is his daily writing schedule.

PARIS, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Balenciaga designer Demna Gvasalia took a personal turn for the luxury label's runway show in Paris on Sunday, sending out a lineup of reconstructed trench coats, oversize bomber jackets and floor-sweeping floral gowns on an eclectic cast of models plucked from his entourage. His mother opened the show, marching down a long runway set like a stage and lined with draped red velvet curtains, wearing pointy heels and a long, roomy trench coat, navy blue on one side, black on the other, tightly cinched at the waist with a cloth belt. Closing the show was the designer's husband, Loik Gomez, a music artist known as BFRND, in a wedding dress. Worn with a long, white lace veil over his head, the dress was made from seven dresses, “cut, tiered and piled together anew,” according to the show notes. PARIS, Feb 28 (Reuters) - Swedish director Ruben Ostlund, two-times winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, has been named jury president for this year's competition. “I am happy, proud, and humbled to be trusted with the honor of Jury president for this year’s Competition at the Festival de Cannes,” said Ostlund in a statement. He also won the prize in 2017, for his movie "The Square", a satire about the art world. The festival last year returned to its traditional calendar after several years of COVID-19 disruptions. French actor Vincent Lindon presided over last year’s festival, which was the 75th anniversary edition.
